Janashakthi Limited PLC IPO Controversy - Investing in Sri Lankas Stock Market -23rd April 2026

Image
The recent IPO Janashakthi (JXG) had a backlash and ahs sparked frustrtaion among all investors. The IPO as predected was oversubscribed trifold, resulting in almost 15.16 Billion LKR. Due to this they have changed their allocation method to something differant than what they promised in their prospectus. What Changed? Investors are claiming that the effective allocation outcome differed from what they believed was promised in the prospectus . On paper, the IPO followed a structured allocation model: A base allocation (minimum shares) A proportional allocation on excess applications However, in practice, the steep scaling down, especially for larger applications, came as a shock to many if not all. Who got affected the most? Non-retail investors, an investor that wanted to invest more than LKR 200k to recieve a higher minimum share limit, they were promised LKR 200k worth of shares 20 THOUSAND shares. But with the new allocation it looks like they will recieve around 4600 shares...

First dividence and Avrudhu time - Investing in Sri Lankas Stock Market - 12th April 2026

It hasn’t even been a month since I started this portfolio, and there’s already something interesting to share. With the recent ceasefire, the Sri Lankan market has turned noticeably bullish. Just a week ago, my portfolio was sitting at a loss of around LKR 4,000. On paper, it’s still technically in the red,but the situation is a bit more nuanced now. The good news is that I’ve already started receiving dividends. I recently got dividend payouts from HNB.N0000 (Hatton National Bank) and SAMP.N0000 (Sampath Bank) , totaling roughly LKR 1,900. That immediately reduced my effective loss and made me look at this portfolio differently. Are Dividends Actually Worth It? This got me thinking. Last month, I invested about LKR 50,000 into HNB, and within a short period, I received around LKR 1,600 as a dividend. That’s a meaningful return in such a short time, especially considering I wasn’t expecting income this early. But it also raised a question: Why did I receive dividends ...

Hi, Its Day 2 of learning the CSE Market and the above image might shock you at the start. Basically if you buy a stock there is commision or a ask price. With my broker i believe its 1.2% which means the stocks should matrue atleast 1.2% to either break even or head to profits, which is fair I guess. I am investing in the long term and this is an opportunity to learn. The JXG Group has announced their IPO, As a person learning I want to take risks to learn about the stock Market. My Investement advisor, told me not to treat it as gamlbling which i dont and will never do  so. I downloaded the prospectus and went through it. I found some interesting points and please go ahead and tell me if they are normal. 1.The JXG business is a family business as the man shareholders are the Schaffter Family, including Mr Prakash Schaffter (the duputy Chairman) who was a famous cricketer. Around 21.74% of the shares are the only floating shares which means the family business will start in ...

The start - Investing in Sri Lankas Stock Market - 27th March 2026

Everybody tells you to invest money or start saving, but no one really explains how to actually do it. I don’t fully know either. That’s why this is (hopefully) the start of a blog series documenting how my investing journey goes. I came across someone on Facebook . Normally, I wouldn’t recommend reaching out to people like that, but he seemed legit, posting consistent content and building a good reputation. The broker he suggested was unfamiliar to me. Before that, I tried opening an account with Softlogic Brokers , but after 3 months of back-and-forth, they kept declining my application for unclear reasons. So I reached out to him. He recommended Senfin Securities instead. I decided to trust it this time — and surprisingly, they got my account set up in just 3 days. Within a week, I was ready to start investing. I waited for my salary, funded the account with 100k as buying power, and made my first moves on 26.03.2026. I bought: HNB JKH ACL Sampath Let’s se...

Learning AI Technology in 2024

19th of December 2023 - Week One Hello there, I am Mesh and this will be my public journal type blog where I will write my weekly progress on learning AI in 2024. This is the starting week so I believe I owe some context to what persuaded my career change. I am currently an undergraduate paused on my third year and searching for a position in tech, I used to believe getting a Job in Sri Lanka would help me get work experience in return for my hard work. Apparently finding a job is harder than even learning rocket science. To this date I have applied to well over 50 applications which fell under intern, junior, assosciate and higher! From this 50 companies i could say 10% replied back while the rest of them ghosted ( assuming they even screened my CV). So as a fresh third year I was clueless on what industry to dip my self in, Throughout my degree we didnt really specialize in anything, a little bit of SE, QA, BA, Cybersecurity and robotics made me interested in most fields therefo...
