Learning AI Technology in 2024

 19th of December 2023 - Week One

Hello there, I am Mesh and this will be my public journal type blog where I will write my weekly progress on learning AI in 2024. This is the starting week so I believe I owe some context to what persuaded my career change.

I am currently an undergraduate paused on my third year and searching for a position in tech, I used to believe getting a Job in Sri Lanka would help me get work experience in return for my hard work. Apparently finding a job is harder than even learning rocket science. To this date I have applied to well over 50 applications which fell under intern, junior, assosciate and higher! From this 50 companies i could say 10% replied back while the rest of them ghosted ( assuming they even screened my CV). So as a fresh third year I was clueless on what industry to dip my self in, Throughout my degree we didnt really specialize in anything, a little bit of SE, QA, BA, Cybersecurity and robotics made me interested in most fields therefore I applied to many jobs of variety in hope of learning what I landed, I believe this was a great mistake ( to not specialize before applying) as going into the market without knowing what you want could potentially either return no success or get something that you dont admire ( In my case tech support).

Moving on from sending my CV to the bermuda triangle, I have now set my mind to work on AI, To start of i watched a few pros and cons of following this path.

The pros in my words are, AI is a growing technology, msot other jobs will be automated within 10 years, AI has already advanced to a level where 'language models' can write their own code already, so if one day a AI model for coding comes along which is trained specifically for a specific language dataset it might create softwares or atleast provide flawless chunks of code ready for industrial use. Anyway back the pros the AI industry has not appealled to Sri Lanka yet therefore many Sri Lankans or Lankans for short have not joined the workforce in this industry.

The prior point can also be a con, I cannot assure myself that AI will be the trend within the next 5 years ( High Likely!) but till then i will have to specialize in another area to get work experience while practicing my self learned skills.

As of now I am motivated to follow the rules Ive set for myself, I started this blog to recap my week and the public can hold it against me. I will try my best to be efficient to study AI and hope this will help me help someone in the future.

Till then wish me luck!
